Still Alive

The guide is still alive after a longer (too long?) summer break.

On Wednesday the 16th of september from 6pm to 8.30 we'll be having tea/cake with Old Hats book radical library at the forest cafe to collect some more memories!

Feel free to bring yourself and maybe some more cake and we'll brew the tea!

Then we can finally make the zine/map for you to walk around the city with and explore it with new eyes

see you on wednesday!

Minutes from Monday 5th

Present: Neus, Cornelia and Flick (new incorporation, yeai!!) [why weren't YOU there??! ups.. probably because I didn't post it up... but surely you didn't check this often either!]

-We are not going to have it done before August. We're not aiming at tourists but at Edinburgh residents, so there's no need for it to be ready in August. Also, many people who lived here might come back, which means we'll be able to do more reach-out.
-Try to have it ready for Universities' Fresher's week.

-Places to go to get memories when we've (you've!) got the time and energy:
·other cafes apart from the Forest
·Community centres
[carry always a map with you, might make it easier to people sometimes]

-Action point for everybody: try to get a cool A3 map of Edinburgh (Flick's suggestion: look for an old one from the Library).

-Action point: Neus to try and contact Mike Bennet again for the online map he suggested.
-E-mail (spam) people again about the project.
-Action point: Neus to re-activate her facebook account so to make Cornelia admin of the EGE facebook group.
-Action point: review the e-mail and answer people who haven't been answered.
-We might try to have a stall in the Eden Festival (1st weekend of September)
-Action point: Neus to add Flick to the writers of this blog.

No rush, but no pause!

As we always say in Spanish!

Well, well...
Some memories have been arriving, but we need many more, we need yours as well!
Look around the blog or the facebook group for more info about the project, but do not forget that we want ANY sort of memories!
We're not trying to make another special touristic thing for the fringe nor anything like that, this is a starting project to experiment with the different meanings Edinburgh might have, just as Italo Calvino experimented with Venice in his great Invisible Cities.
Happy or sad, creative or mundane, short or long, young or old... all memories should have their place, life is never perfect, neither is Edinburgh!

The fact that our deadline is on the 30th of June is because we want to have the zine compilling all the memories ready before either Cornelia or I leave Edinburgh at different times in July. We want to have it ready for the fringe. We thought it'd be a pity not to have it ready for then.
BUT!
That does not mean the project will end on the 30th of June, don't worry if you're late, keep sending things, keep spreading this project out, for it will (hopefully) never stop. For it will (again hopefully) be an ongoing project, developing and expanding with workshops in elderly clubs, meadow picnics and whatever comes to our minds that our bodies have the energy to bring to life.
Also, after having a sort of material outcome of this first round of memories, it will be easier to let people know about it, get more engaged... get more and more memories coming!

So do participate!
And contact us at emotionalguidetoedinburgh@gmail.com with any questions, suggestions, cheers...
Cornelia is probably hanging around the Forest Café; I'm in Barcelona and other places, but will be coming back by the end of the month. =)

And, last thing, if anybody wants to participate in the making of the zine, feel more than welcomed to!
I will post specific details when we decide about a meeting time and place to get our hands on it.

Big blue warm hug from Spain!
Neus

Action day!

Cornelia made a reaaaally nice poster. You can admire it in the Forest Café.

But there are many things left to do: decorate de drop-box, leaflets, start maping, craft around to make material for a stall, think about possible links with other projects/people, keep spreading...

For that reason, we will have an action day this SUNDAY the 16th!
Please come along!

  • We will meet at 12 in the Forest Café to have a meeting where we'll organize and check on old and new action points. Discuss new ideas, and hopefully get some magic input from more people than just Cornelia and me!
  • At 1 we will head over upstears, for we have monopolized this week's "scrapage savage" to make maps and other crafty things out of recicled materials for the project.

Minutes from today

We had a wonderful meeting in the garden of the Forest Café! Fiona was also present.

Poster
-We discussed whether we should put our names on the poster or make it anonymous because we don't want to claim that much ownership over it. It's everybody's memories. However, with Fiona's opinion in favour as well, we decided we'd put our names on it because we believe it might look more approachable if there is somebody tangible behind it. And we want to reach out as far as possible!
-AP: Cornelia to do it. She'll take a map of Edinburgh and put information on it with white pieces of written paper.

Leaflets
-AP: Cornelia to do it, similarly to the poster. We decided to make them 1/8 of a A4 shit, so we can get more out of less paper! Yeai!

Dropbox
-Cornelia found a box, to be decorated.

Blog
-Neus set it up on Wednesday afternoon. Still to improve
-AP: Neus to write exactly what you're reading now.
-AP: Neus to sort out Cornelia to be able to write as well.

Forest Grant
-It's out there again for people to apply if they have interesting projects.
-AP: Cornelia to ask Nix or whoever how to go about it. We think this project is ACE!

Form
-we were discussing the idea of having a form with the question: how do you feel about Edinburgh? With tick boxes of age, gender, amount of years in Edinburgh... to be able to map interesting comparisons on how people feel
-however we're not clear about it. It's an interesting thought but forms put some people off, and they're not in direct contact with people...

Spread the word
-we should go around asking people
-maybe get material for a stall ready, so to have in the Meadows festival or events of the like

ACTION DAY!
-monopolize will's scrapage savage on Sundays in the Forest. AP: Cornelia to ask him. If he agrees, we'll decorate the drop box, do some nice cardbox stuff... get material to set action spots in the meadows... open to ideaas!
-AP: neus to make a facebook event when Will confirms. It'd be sunday next week from 1 to 4pm. In the hall of the Forest Café.

Go round day
-17th of May, Monday.
-We'll go round Community Centres, maybe churches, random people in the street...

This is it for now...
please spread the word
and get involved!!!

We'll confirm the action day and the go-round day.

Blue skies for everybody!
